Your third grade student will enjoy reading the fable and having a wide variety of activities to follow.

ICDL Books
Website for International Children’s Digital Library.  This is a wonderful resource for reading.

Science News for Kids
Updated weekly, students can read age appropriate items about science that is in the news.

National Geographic
True to their reputation, this website has interesting graphics and stories of high interest for older readers. Sit down with your student and find out all sorts of fun information.

Time for Kids
This is also a wonderful site for current events. After visiting this site with them, you'll have a great springboard for discussion.

WRITING WEBSITES
 
Paragraph Punch
This is a WONDERFUL site for writers needing to focus on paragraph formation. Parents will have to preview the site so they can familiarize their students as to where the process begins on the page. The site explains the process of thinking about a given writing prompt, takes them through the pre-writing phase and offers tips along the way.

Harcourt School
This website reviews the proofreading skill and then delivers sentences for proofreading without clues. If students really rewrite the sentences, this is good keyboarding practice also.

SPELLING WEBSITES

Everyday Spelling
This site lists spelling words, patterns and strategies for all elementary levels. There are puzzle areas, writing prompts, and other useful resources.

Cogcon
This website has various levels of activities. Practice pattern recognition through a game format.

This is a website for grades 1-3 to practice basic skills while playing games.

Online flashcards that are wonderful! Check out the money flashcards with your child(ren).

Saxon
This is the current math series company being used at CCES and the Coal City School District.
